Commendations go to Mia Helenius and Abbey Lentjes (both Year 10) who have achieved the honour of representing Margaret River Senior High School at the Evatt Trophy debating STATE FINAL in Parliament House!
They impressed the judges and were selected as one of the top fifteen debating teams in the state.

On Saturday, 21 August, Toby Grandy, Tom Hage, Mia Helenius, and Abbey Lentjes attended the Evatt Trophy diplomatic debating competition semi-final in Perth. They represented the USA and the UK, respectively, and prepared the resolutions The Dispute of Flanders and Wallonia. The feedback from the organisers about the quality of engagement of these two Margaret River SHS teams was overwhelmingly positive. The organisers from UN Youth subsequently picked Mia and Abbey as one of the top 15 debating teams of Western Australia. They will compete in the Evatt Trophy State Grand Final in Parliament on Friday, 3 September. Mia and Abbey need to attend a zoom workshop on Sunday afternoon, and their allocated member country is Estonia. The prepared resolution is The Question of Non-Kinetic Aggression. What a fantastic achievement and a testament to the quality of our students!

This is the third time that MRSHS is represented in the State final after 2018 (Sasha Hughes and Ruby Fox) and 2020 (Saffron Sgroi and Madeleine Sherlock). Congratulations and well done!
