I am super excited to share the outstanding success of our 2023 Evatt Trophy Debating Team. Margaret River Senior High School students simulated UN Security Council sessions, delving into global issues with zeal. Paired off and assigned countries and resolutions, they mastered diplomacy, public speaking, and critical thinking.

The journey began in March with a special round involving for the first time ever, Year 7 students, marking inclusivity and early engagement. By June’s regional final, nine Margaret River teams showcased their talents, with three securing a spot in the grand final at the Perth Parliament House – a testament to our school’s excellence.

In a historic first, Sara Clarke and Emma Heyink will represent Western Australia at the 2023 Evatt Debating National Finals in Melbourne. This achievement, unprecedented for a regional government school, highlights their dedication and talent.

I extend my gratitude to the 2023 Evatt debating team, the parents for their amazing support, and the organisers of UN Youth Western Australia for making this extra-curriculum program available to our students. Congratulations, and best wishes for the finals!
