Career services, information, coaching & counselling

The Career Development Centre (CDC) is a hub designed to provide services and information to the whole school community. The team within the Centre believe the best decisions are made with quality information and therefore we provide students, parents and teachers with relevant and current information.  Through the Centre we also provide coaching and counselling sessions and conduct industry specific talks.  Parents are always welcome to visit the Career Centre to discuss and explore options available for their student including: entry requirements, alternative pathways, and academic, social and personal considerations of continuing levels of education.

The Career Development Centre also organises opportunities for students to visit Career Expo’s, attend University Open Days, participate in Industry Specific information sessions and attend Industry Specific Career Workshops at school with visiting guest speakers such as the Australian Defence Force, WA Police Recruitment, Nursing etc.

Work Experience & Work Placements

As part of our Career and Enterprise Course, individual work placements are organised through the Careers Centre, providing students with hands on experience in a wide range of occupations. These opportunities give students the chance to explore expectations of the workplace and build an awareness of their skills and abilities.

The Career Centre at MRSHS encourages many aspects of personal discovery and decision-making. Through a wide range of services, provided by the CDC team members, our large network of local employers, and some outside agencies, students will be able to explore potential career and training pathways.

Workplace Learning Endorsed Program

The Workplace Learning Endorsed Program provides an opportunity for a student to demonstrate and develop increasing competence in the core skills for work (often referred to as generic, transferable or employability skills).  Developing competence in workplace skills assists an individual to gain employment, progress within the organisation or industry area in which they are employed, and to contribute successfully to the organisation’s objectives and to the wider community.  Students must record the number of hours completed and tasks undertaken in the SCSA Workplace Learning Logbook – the total number of hours completed in the workplace contributes to students WACE Achievements.  Every 55 hours in WPL give the students 1 unit equivalent once both Logbook and Skills Journal are completed.
