Third consecutive title for Willcox
Margaret River’s Jacob Willcox joined illustrious company for the third time, winning the WA State Surfing Championship at Flat Rocks in Geraldton on July 21.
Willcox won the blue ribbon U18 Junior Boys division, and with past winners over the years including Taj Burrow, James Catto, Ry Craike, Luke Campbell and Creed McTaggart, the U18 Junior Boys offers a fairly accurate prediction of future surfing success.
Willcox, the current ISA U16 World Champion put on a one man demolition derby, confirming his status as WA’s next big thing by wrapping up the final heat of the weekend in an emphatic display.
His razor sharp forehand attack saw top scores of an 8.50 and a back up 8.27 lock in as Willcox amassed a combined total of 16.77 (from a possible 20), to claim his second victory of the series.
