On Tuesday, 30 July, 28 students participated in the annual Evatt Trophy debating competition. Evatt is a Model United Nations competition. Students represented a country on the Security Council in teams of two and engaged with real issues that face the world today. This competition gave students a chance to sharpen their speaking, negotiation, research and teamwork skills. They followed the procedure conducted by the real UN Security Council and the students learned about the challenges of negotiating between different warring factions in Yemen and Venezuela. The organisers United Nations Youth Western Australia have included Margaret River as a separate round for the fifth year in a row based on the overwhelming enthusiasm and support from the students. Special thanks go to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River for the ongoing support of our students and the use of the prestigious Shire Council chamber.

Thanks
