The Country Week students competed fabulously all week and upped the ante on Friday, finals day.
Results as follows
Boys Basketball were the first team to play for the day. They played a very close game against Karratha, eventually going down by 1 point after the siren 35-36. They finished 6th overall.
Boys Volleyball also played Karratha in the final, destroying them 2 sets to 0. They finished 5th overall.
Girls Volleyball smashed Albany SHS 2 sets to 0. They finished 3rd overall.
Netball played a very close and physical game against Northam. The lead changed several times but our girls held there nerve in the last few minutes to secure the win 38 – 36. They finished 3rd overall.
Girls Basketball had a close game against Cape Naturaliste College. Our girls were too good winning 26-22. They finished 3rd overall.
Dance showed their performance to the Country Week squad on Thursday night. Everyone was very impressed, calling for more, more. They competed all morning on the Friday and we are waiting on the final results for the dance crew.
Hockey played their final on Thursday. Unfortunately they just went down to Busselton SHS 2 – 0. During this game, Amelia Glass whilst trying to stop a shot on goal, copped a hockey stick to the hand. We took her to hospital and it was a broken knuckle. She was a trooper, barely crying and remaining positive. More worried about how she would do her exams than the displaced knuckle.
Heath and Sabre debuted a new chant to the delight of the crowd watching the Basketball.
“Look out, we’re from River, we are gonna make you shiver, Brrrrrr (whilst hugging themselves and shivering), Brrrrr”
It was so funny, the students and staff loved it. I think it might stick.
Our students represented our school so well. We are super proud of every one of them.
Massive thanks to our coaches who have trained their teams for the past 11 months and for having such a big impact on their players. These guys made the week run smoothly whilst providing plenty of laughs along the way. A special mention also to Maxine Williams, mother of Helena and Rowley. Trained the hockey team and took a week off and travelled to Perth to coach them during Country Week.
