Science & Engineering Challenge
THE Margaret River Senior High School year 9s have outsmarted many other South West school students by winning the Southwest Division of the Science and Engineering Challenge 2011.
The students travelled to Australind last week for the challenge, as part of the Margaret River SHS enrichment program.
They took on eight engineering challenges which involved designing and making machines or other structures to achieve a set of goals.
Challenges included bridge building, aeronautics, eco-habitats, electrical grids, hovercraft, air-powered cars, and all terrain vehicles design and construction.
The schools competed in good spirit, but the Margaret River students were too good overall and had the highest point score at the end.
In September they will compete in the state finals, which gives them a chance to compete in the national finals in Victoria.
