Health and Physical Education
{besps}faculties/health_pe{/besps}Our philosophy is to provide students with the necessary information to make informed decisions about their own personal health and also to provide the experience of games and physical activities to give students the skills necessary to develop and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Students will be exposed to movement skills and strategies and tactics designed to enhance performance, self-understanding and decision-making skills and a promotion of well-being and building positive relationships.
Courses
We offer a myriad of subjects designed to cater for the needs of all our students. In lower school we offer Health and Physical Education classes to all students as well as specialised units in Surfing, Outdoor Education, Fitness and Netball. Students can also participate in recreation classes covering Archery, Golf, Aquatics and Table Tennis, which are all designed to enable us to achieve our philosophical aims. In Year 11 and 12, students can satisfy the Curriculum Council’s secondary graduation requirements by completion of Stage 2 and Stage 3 Physical Education Studies courses enabling them to sit their Tertiary Entrance Exams. In 2010 our faculty was recognised for achieving top ten status across all secondary education institutions for Stage 3 Physical Education Studies. Upper School students can also complete a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation Studies or Outdoor Recreation Studies enabling them to complete Units of Competency towards TAFE accreditation.
