For the first time in 3 years, the Senior High School Country Week Competition returned in its full capacity for over 3500 country students after Covid had impacted over the past three years. In 2023, we saw the return of the Opening & Closing Ceremonies where students come together to celebrate the successes of past and present teams.
The experience commenced on Sunday 26th June where students travelled to Perth and settled into their accommodation. Over the remaining five days students participated in fixtured games against and completed workshops with schools from all around the state. Our student performed very well across a range of sports and activities.
Students also were involved in a range of nighttime activities including a trip to the movies, a night walk through Kings Park finishing at the War Memorial, Glow In The Dark Mini Golf and a visit to Belmont Forum Shopping Centre. Student enjoyed meals together and participated in nightly recaps of their day, celebrating successes and sharing fun memories.
Overall, our students conduct was excellent and staff were extremely proud of the way the squad represented our school during the week-long competition. Below is a list of results for each team. Special mention goes to the amazing team of dancers who won their A Grade Division to claim the Statewide Crown for 2023. This is a truly sensation result……well done to both the team and Miss Livesey.
AFL Boys – B Division – 4th place
Dance – A Division – 1st Place
Netball – B Division – 6th Place
Soccer – B Division – 5th Place
Boys Volleyball – A Division – 5th Place

We hope to see many of the students return again next year to represent the school and look forward to having new students nominate for selection in the 2024 SHS Country Week Squad. Nomination for the 2024 competition will commence at the start of Term 4.
Finally, we would like to extend our appreciation to all the staff who invest both their time and energy into preparing and coaching teams, many of whom had left loved ones at home to provide this experience for our students. The legendary Country Week staff were:
Mr Berin Sluiter – AFL Boys
Miss Chanel Livesey – Dance
Miss Sabre Stone – Netball
Mr Byron Hudson and Miss Salli Howden – Boys Soccer
Mr Jesse Knapp – Boys Volleyball
Miss Clare Woolfrey – Girls Volleyball
