On Friday, 10 March, Margaret River SHS had the pleasure of hosting the Voice Public Speaking regional competition round, organised by UN Youth WA. The event included eight talented speakers, four juniors from Year 7 and 8 and four seniors (Years 9 and 10), who delivered analytical speeches on a range of important topics, including diversity in politics, online safety for young people, and disaster preparedness.
After their speeches, the students were asked two clarification questions that challenged them to reflect on the wider implications of their proposed solutions to the topics. This not only showcased their public speaking skills but also their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
This competition provides a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their communication and analytical skills, as well as to engage with important social and political issues. The students demonstrated remarkable talent, passion, and commitment to their topics, and it was a joy to witness them share their ideas and perspectives.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the three facilitators from UN Youth who made this event possible. They provided our students with an enriching and empowering experience that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on their personal and academic growth.
