2011 Country Week Success
Ninety Margaret River Senior High School competitors and eight coaches enjoyed Country Week during the last week of term two. The team celebrated two division wins and was Division A runner-up.
Students thanked ever-reliable bus driver Lance and Country Week co-ordinator Stuart Kupfer-Hollis for a safe and perfectly-organised week.
MRSHS results were:
AFL Boys: C Division winners. MRSHS won all seven games. The team showed some outstanding play and defeated Karratha SHS by six goals in the grand final.
Dance: B Division winners. The MRSHS girls put together an outstanding performance. After three days of gruelling workshops at WAAPA, the group showed their superior skills in the final performance.
Netball: A Division 8th. The team placed 8th out of 37, the girls encountered some narrow losses but secured A Division status with a convincing win against Australind SHS.
Soccer, Boys: B Division 4th. The squad started with three wins but lost two of their six group games. The boys lost the third-place play-off three goals to nil against Geraldton.
Soccer, Girls: B Division 5th. The girls played some good football and were unlucky not to take away a point in their division matches. The team was eliminated despite a two-all draw in their qualification final.
Volleyball, Boys. A Division 8th. The boys won one and lost six of their group games. Despite losing the 7th place play-off and being placed last in A Division, the squad left 26 schools behind them in the final ranking.
Volleyball, Girls: A Division runners-up. After a demolition in their first game to the eventual winners, Newton Moore SHS, the girls won all other group games forcefully to qualify for the grand final.
